The origins of Livar, the Limburg monastery pig, lie at Lilbosch Abbey in Echt, Limburg. Since 1999, the abbey has worked with small-scale pig farmers in Limburg to raise Livar pigs. The special crossing of breeds, feed from regionally grown cereals and the highest possible care for animal welfare, gives our Livar meat the best quality and taste. You can taste that!

What a special day!
We were delighted to welcome His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima to our monastery farm and Lilbosch Abbey in Echt. During their regional visit to Midden-Limburg, they learned about our vision for sustainable pig farming, distinctive quality and local origin.
We proudly told the royal couple our story and showed them how craftsmanship and respect for animals and the environment come together within Livar. Of course, a tasting was also included, and our amuse-bouches were clearly a hit! 😉
We look back on a warm, inspiring and unforgettable day. Proud that we were able to put our region on the map 🇳🇱
