Royal visit at Livar: A look back
What a special day for Livar and Abdij Lilbosch! Last Tuesday, 19 May, we were honoured to welcome His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima during their regional visit to Midden-Limburg.
The King and Queen were given a behind-the-scenes look at the Trappist abbey and our Livar monastery farm. In a beautiful and relaxed atmosphere, they were introduced to the way we have been working for years on sustainable pig farming, distinctive quality, and local origin.
Connection
During the visit, there was much focus on the connection between animal welfare, quality, nature, and the region. Topics such as legislation and regulations and antibiotic use also came up. Furthermore, the history behind Livar and our collaboration with the monks of Abdij Lilbosch made a considerable impression.
The warthogs visibly enjoyed the royal attention. During the tour, Queen Máxima took plenty of time to pet a curious piglet. A spontaneous moment that gave this day even more colour.
Livar amuses
Naturally, we concluded the visit with a tasting of various Livar appetisers, prepared on the spot by our chefs. The royal couple visibly enjoyed the dishes, which you can now also make at home!
It was a tremendous honour to be able to share our story and show what Livar stands for. We are also delighted with the considerable interest from the Dutch media, through which we were also able to frequently share our story of the day. We therefore look back with great pride and gratitude on a warm, inspiring and unforgettable day. We are happy that we were able to put our region and our company on the map in this way.
Thanks to Joost Ritzen and Stefan Koopmans for the beautiful photos.
Recipes
The amuse-bouches presented to our King and Queen have been carefully curated by our chefs using local and seasonal ingredients. For example, we have created dishes with Limburg white asparagus, Limburg apple syrup, wild garlic from the woods, Tomasu soy sauce, and microgreens from Koppert Cress.
